Early Pregnancy Symptoms to Look Out For

Early pregnancy symptoms can be subtle and hard to differentiate from normal things that happen to a woman’s body. Different women have different pregnancy symptoms, and women who become pregnant more than once can even have different symptoms for each pregnancy. Drugstore pregnancy tests or doctor’s visits can be expensive so knowing whether there is a possibility of pregnancy can be helpful before seeking help. Knowing what to look for can help a woman determine whether or not she is pregnant.

One of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy is implantation bleeding, which is spotting that occurs as early as three to twelve days after fertilization. Not all women experience implantation bleeding. The spotting can be very light, and some women may mistake implantation bleeding for menstrual bleeding. A missed menstrual period is often the first warning sign that a woman experiences. However, many women have irregular menstrual periods or their periods are altered by birth control pills, so a missed period may not cause them much concern.

Morning sickness can begin as early as two to four weeks after conception and continues throughout the first trimester, or the first three months of pregnancy. Morning sickness is so named because many women experience nausea and vomiting in the morning, but many also experience pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting during the day and evening. Many women also feel as though they are experiencing pregnancy weight gain during the first month, although it is often bloating that they are feeling. Bloating tends to make clothing feel tighter, particularly around the midsection, and it is easily mistaken for weight gain. Weight gain does occur during pregnancy, but it is usually much later than the first month. Women typically don’t start showing until early in the second trimester. Weight gain during pregnancy varies. Some women only gain five to ten pounds while others gain much more.

If a woman experiences some or all of these symptoms, she could be pregnant. An online pregnancy test may help decide whether it is time to take a home pregnancy test. Online pregnancy tests are usually quizzes that ask questions about recent changes in the body that can help a woman judge her chances of being pregnant. After deciding to take a pregnancy test, it is best to wait at least five days after the first missed period for early detection tests. Pregnancy tests conducted at doctor’s offices are typically the most accurate.
